İsmail Akçok, PhD (Principle investigator)
Dr. Akçok graduated from the Department of Chemistry, Izmir Institute of Technology in 2007. In the same year, he joined the laboratory of Prof. Ali Çağır, who is working as a Professor at Izmir Institute of Technology, Department of Chemistry. In 2009, he completed his master’s degree and started his Ph.D. education in the same laboratory. During graduate studies, he often dealt with the synthesis of biologically active molecules. He also worked on developing new synthesis methods for those molecules. In 2014, he completed his Ph.D. Afterwards he moved to Switzerland to work as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL). He joined the Bioorganometallic and Medicinal Chemistry Laboratory, which led by Paul Dyson. Here, he worked on the synthesis of ligand synthesis for new platinum-based drugs. He also studied on the chemoselective reduction of heteroarenes by heterogeneous catalyzed reactions. He is currently focusing on developing new kind of anticancer drugs in his laboratory.
